Bayer Faces Thousands of Yaz Blood Clot Lawsuits
» Escrito en por admin a las 20:05Thousands of women took the oral contraceptive Yaz, thinking it would eliminate symptoms of PMS and aid in weight loss in addition to preventing pregnancy. In 2006, perhaps to Bayer’s marketing campaign’s lofty claims, Bayer was the most popular oral contraceptive pill in the United States. Numerous warning letters from the FDA have brought facts to light that show Yaz poses dangerous health risks. Furthermore, the company has been chastised for its marketing claims that the drug alleviates PMS symptoms or clears acne; no clinical testing has proven these statements to be true. Bayer faces Yaz blood clot lawsuits which hinge on the claim that the company was aware of the potential risks posed by drospirenone, an ingredient in Yaz, but failed to make consumers aware of the severity of the risk the substance causes. Drospirenone is a synthetic version of progesterone, and it is known to cause an increase in the potassium level in the bloodstream. Heightened potassium can lead to the formation of blood clots, causing stroke, heart attack and deep vein thrombosis. The drug has not been recalled, but Bayer was forced to add stronger warnings to the prescription insert, as well as to conduct ad campaigns that clarified the company’s false marketing claims.
